Can you put a cash value on three of the world’s most iconic monuments: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Eiffel Tower and New York’s Grand Central Station?
One man sets about finding how much it would cost by modern standards to scrap them, build them or move them.
Interesting show. The only question I have is: Why transport Grand Central Station by truck? It's on a rail line. Rail cars can handle 5x the weight a truck can. Also, the ceiling pieces will be very tall on the special trucks. Once you leave Manhattan, overhead obsticles abound. How tall are the pieces? Will they really fit cross-country? What about shipping them to the west coast and trucking from there?
I think this is a very interesting show. I'm curious why the idea of embodied energy is not brought up when determining the value of the historic structure, or even the lifespan of the materials used, compared to modern construction
