Over 80% of all people who are attacked by sharks are bitten within 100 feet of a beach. They are usually doing one of three things: swimming, diving, or floating on rafts or surfboards. But we're only just starting to understand how sharks choose their victims. From the stats, it seems there's nothing sharks like more than investigating someone thrashing around on the surface.
